Hugs and good luck to Lynne

Today Curtis and I went into work to see my pal Lynne as it was her last day before moving onto a new job. Lynne wasn't expecting her little guest at the staff farewell do so it was a nice surprise for her and a great event for Curtis to hone his flirting skills and do some cute stuff for an admiring audience. Curtis had his eyes firmly set on Pam and also shared cuddles with Lynne, Gillian and Karen. I wish we had more oppurtunity to do this kind of thing as I worry that he'll struggle at nursery after having spent so much time with just me...so I'm now looking for all oppurtunities to help Curtis socialise so he's better prepared for September.

11th June: Massage mums meet at Burrel Collection

Today the Wednesday meet up was at the Pollok country park Burrel collection...a great venue for mums and dads with their little ones as the cafes has great big tables, lots of other parents, a positive breastfeeding policy, changing facilities and of course the park and other attractions. All the babies were doing well...Milly showed off her new toothy grin, though Isla won the contest here with 4 teeth against Millys 2, Leo who is the well on the way with his weaning wanted to share with everyone the fish dinner he'd had for lunch and so deposited some of it on his mum Emmas lovely dress, Zoe and Erin were cute as usual and Curtis enjoyed catching up with them all. Rather than go straight home Curtis and I took a look around the museum b4 it closed. He was in his baby carrier facing out so I couldnt see how he was doing but judging from the smiles and comments from people walking towards us he was having a great ol' time. He begins to grab at things he walks past quite often now which isnt usually a problem..but trying to bring John the security guy home was a bit too much...he had to be forcibly removed from Curtis' grip..but didn't seem to mind!
Another day when I was too busy chatting to take photos...really must remember next Wednesday!
Catching up with news in June

As you'll see we've been pretty slack with the blog lately...mainly as we've been busy getting our garden done having sacked the gardeners who wanted to charge £180/day to lay turf and do some paving! We've managed now to do it all ourselves with early morning and late night gardening sessions when Curtis has been sleeping...so in this time what's been happening with the little guy?

-He spent a good few days being obsessed with raspberry blowing...including during breastfeeding and once or twice when half asleep in bed which was very funny! Its been hilarious to watch his efforts, especially the ones which seem to take lots of effort but get nowhere beyond a funny facial expression.

-He is so much more aware of his surroundings. Walking into a room with him he immediately turns towards familiar things e.g. the stereo in the bedroom, which he 'talks' to. He is also now starting to grab and reach out for things which even at this stage makes me realise I need to be vigilant...he already surprised me when I looked down to see that although seemingly safe in my arms he was eating the dishcloth from the sink! He must have swiped it when we walked by! yum!

-He is still practising his sitting and standing skills with standing his favourite by far...he looks really happy with himself when he gets some help to stand up like a big guy.

-He is still really chuffed to see himself in the mirror and we still spend a fair bit of time dancing in front of the mirror together, so combing two of his favourite things.

-He is turning into the cuddliest baby in town. He often stands on my legs with his arms really tight around my neck nuzzling into my neck and stays there for ages. Its really lovely that he is like this and is always cheered up by a torrent of big loud kisses on his cheeks. Sure he'll hate it when he's older so I'll enjoy it while I can.

- Curtis starts to show his likes and dislikes more often now...likes definately include the musical donkey which he loves to shake, the skwish toy Mark and Moira bought him and the giggle apple from Nanna and Taid....he chews and then sucks on the worms eyes and leaves them so soggy I have to wash them every night!

We bought Curtis a little paddling pool for the back garden, but as I was too excited to use it, and couldnt be bothered going out through the back door, one afternoon I set it up for him in the hall. Apologies for the poor photography, I only had one hand free as the other was holding little man.

One very sunny day I had to cover the front of the pram entirely with my jacket to shield little man from the sun, but when I checked on him 2 mins later I was shocked to see he had managed to pull up the side of the pram to get some sunlight anyway...the cheeky chap! In general he seems less and less happy in the pram probably as he wants to be sitting up looking at things, but we've tried him in the pushchair mode but he just doesn't sit up well enough for that yet.

- Weaning has been progressing well with parsnip, carrot, swede, brocolli, leeks, celery, sweet potatoe, cauliflower, banana, pear and avocado having been given the little guys seal of approval. He also now has a safe feeding mesh so we can give him bits of banana to eat by himself which he does by sucking on it through the mesh.

Just a regular Tuesday

Today we stayed at home just chilling, playing with toys, reading books and blowing rasberries. For breakfast Curtis had milk and pears and was quite happy with that, then at 11am Kenny came to visit us. Then as usual it was off to the park but Curtis just wasn't happy in the pram, maybe due to reflux or that he just wants to be up and looking about. I had to prop him up at the end of the pram so that he could see things to stop him grizzling. Apart from that he was the happy giggly guy he usually is with plenty of giggle breathing in the afternoon...this is how Curtis seems to breath a lot fo the time, when every out breath is a giggle :-)

Now I'm off to move the pots from our front garden as the gardeners arrive earkly in the morning to do our paving and lawn! Yipeeee!

Monday 2nd June: Curtis goes swimming

Daddy G was off again today so we took the oppurtunity to take Curtis for his first swim. He looked so cool in his little swim nappy and wetsuit and seemed to be very happy with his first splash in the pool. He happily flotated about in his floatie and then did a few lengths fo the pool assisted my his parents...he was too busy taking in all the new sights and sounds to giggle about it too much but by the end of his 20 minute swim time he did start splashing his hands in the water.

Sunday 1st June: A day at home with daddy

Curtis spent a relaxed dad at home with both mum and dad today which started with an early morning walk to Maxwell Park where we bumped into our neighbour Anne and her grandaughter Jennifer, we also caught another glimpse of the wee swans. The rest of the day was spent sorting out our front garden, watering the rolls of lawn we'd bought and trying to find some suitavle paving.

Curtis goes to work!

...and about time too, the little blighter has been sponging off of us for a whole 4 months now. So, yeah, the wee guy had a day at the office today...in the main spent flirting with the ladies with his smiles and giggles. As well as spending time with my colleagues in the office, Curtis also had a trip to the uni canteen. He was transfixed by the place and loved looking around the room at everyone. He then offered us all a serenade of grumbles and tears as my cauliflower cheese lunch coincided rudely with his usual nap time! It was a good test to see whether he'd just doze off in the pram in a noisey room (rather like future nursery days will be) but nope...it didnt work that way! As usual when busy I forgot to take any pics of the people we went to visit..but did get one of Curtis standing on Lynne. He has taken quite a shine to Lynne and has invited her over with her wee girl Molly next week. We are very much looking forward to that.

Once home we just chilled out sitting in the back garden and playing in the house. Curtis was on very good form and quite vocal. He had a battle with his toy donkey and growled and snarled at it which was very amusing! he then repeated this when playing with me later...biting my fingers and shaking his head and making growling noises like a dog does with a toy! Is it a full moon tonight?? What is he up to?? I take it this is normal behaviour for a 4 month old, yes??

Back In the ol' Routine & a date with Mags and Erin

This afteroon baby Erin and her mum Mags hosted the Wednesday afternoon meet up of the massage mums...we may soon all be challenged by trading standards as we havent done a single massage since the class finished but yet again much food and chatter was had by all! All babies were on good form, doing as babies do...Milly pooping on her socks, Isla showing us her latest rolling over moves, Logan squealing with delight and Zoe giving out some super big smiles.

Curtis really does seem to be back to normal now with his feeding which is a huge relief to us. We do seem to have back-tracked a little with his night time sleeping as he now wakes for an earlier feed at 10.30pm as well as 1-2 more through the night...but this is better than 2 hourly so no complaints here.

Curtis, not so Hungry

What appears to have been one almighty growth spurt has finally come to an end after 4 days and nights of non stop feeding. The assumption that he needs solid foods and as much of it as possible seems to have been slightly premature as today he was more than satisfied with his usual milk supply.
The 4 day "growth spurt" took so much effort however that he set a new personal best for day time sleeping. An unprecedented 3 hour day time nap today. Some achievement from Mr. Curtis "20 min max nap" Hughes.
With 4 days of non stop feeding and 3 hour naps we half expected a growth spurt of incredible hulk like proportions and that we'd wake up in the morning with him bursting out of his clothes.

Just Standing Around

Curtis has been putting weight on his legs for some time but he really seems now to notice that he's doing it and gets quite excited and almost looks quite proud of himself whenever he is helped to stand up. Quite strange how whe they do thsi they really stop looking like that little squished and small baby you thought you'd been carrying around too....ah, he looks so grown up!

He's also doig so well at sitting that we can now use the wee bath seat we bought him a few weeks ago. He does now however have to wear scracth mitts in the bath (and when he sleeps, and when we change him) as he just cant stop scratching himself on his head, legs and chest whenever he gets the chance to attack his naked skin. His dry skin really irritates him now poor thing and we have to be very vigilant to prevent him from casuing himself any damage :-(
